Daily Fantasy Football: Week 1

Whether you are a DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) fanatic or new to DFS, this article is for you. Each week, the Fantasy 4um will provide a recommended lineup based on FanDuel pricing; we will also be providing tips and tricks throughout the season to hopefully help you in your quest for DFS glory.

Thursday Night's Game
  • Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady are worth their prices this week on FanDuel ($8,100 and $8,400 respectively). The Patriots have something to prove on Thursday night. Additionally, Thursday night's game has the second highest over/under for the week (second to the PHI vs. ATL game which we will discuss later).
  • Antonio Brown ($9,300) is also worth the price in what is bound to be a high scoring affair on a team that is missing their starting RB for two weeks.
  • Value Pick: my high-upside, value pick for Thursday's game is Danny Amendola ($5,600). Amendola has put up some impressive numbers when he's been healthy. The concern with Amendola has always been his health (see Sam Bradford). And guess what? Amendola is currently healthy.
Sunday and Monday Games
  • Jeremy Hill is too pricey for my taste this week, coming in higher this week than he did in any week last year ($8,600)
  • Stevie Johnson ($4,700) should have a good Week 1 against Detroit with one of their top target receivers last year in Antonio Gates suspended. I expect him to get 9-11 targets; what he does with those targets is still debatable.
  • Marvin Jones is playing the Raiders and is priced at the minimum ($4,500). He's a high upside, value play this week in tournament games.
  • Reuben Randle ($5,300) might also be worth a flier with the recent news that Cruz will miss a few weeks.
  • Dez Bryant is the best priced top tier receiver this week, coming in at $8,700; $600 less than Antonio Brown and $300 less than Julio Jones.
  • Tyrod Taylor and Kirk Cousins are sneaky, high-upside QBs this week that you can get for a great price ($5,000 and $6,000) respectively. They both have the ability to make or break your lineup this week.
  • Sam Bradford ($7,500) is in an ideal situation: Chip Kelly's offense and several new healthy offensive weapons including Demarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, and Nelson Agholor. Good thing daily fantasy sports only require him to be healthy for one game. These high octane offenses will be fun to watch; I (as well as Vegas) anticipate this to be the highest scoring game of the weekend.
  • Tevin Coleman ($6,700) will be the Week 1 starter for the St. Louis Rams. He was not priced as such.
  • Owen Daniels is very underrated this weekend, coming in as the 8th TE in Sunday and Monday games ($5,500). I'd bet money (is FanDuel considered "betting"?) that Daniels will score at least one touchdown in Denver this weekend against his former team, the Baltimore Ravens.
  • Zach Hocker just won the kicking competition between him and Dustin Hopkins. I probably won't usually write about kickers, but Hocker is on a good offense that will be playing in AZ for what is likely going to be a high scoring game (tied for 5th highest over/under this week). Did I mention Hocker is going for the K minimum ($4,500)?
  • Jets Defense goes up against Josh McCown and the Cleveland Browns. Need I say more?
