Pick 6 - Week 2

We all have two or three guys on our team that are borderline flex players. Which of these flex players are good Week 2 plays?

Each week this column will suggest borderline players that you should start, and borderline players that you should sit. These projections are based on historical matchups, the matchup against the current defense, and how the player is performing this year.

Studs

Tevin Coleman - Expect a shootout this week as the Giants take on the Falcons. Both teams boast high scoring offenses with average defenses at best. The Cowboys running backs shredded the Giants defense for 81 rushing yards and 131 receiving yards. Look at Coleman as a middle of the pack RB2 this week.

Ameer Abdullah - We all saw what Carlos Hyde did to the Vikings defense on Monday night. I like Abdullah's upside this week as a solid flex play. Abdullah will be involved in the passing game, so his potential lack of carries will be mitigated. Start him as a flex play with confidence as he has the upside of an RB2 this week.

Sammy Watkins - A guy this talented doesn't put up two duds in a row. Last week he was shadowed by Vontae Davis who is one of the best corners in the league. I like Watkins as a sure fire WR3 with upside for a WR2.

Duds

Cam Newton - You can do better than this if you are in a ten team league. It's best to let the dust settle on this weak receiving corps until Devin Funchess has time to adjust to life in the NFL.

Pierre Garcon - I'm just not buying into Garcon even though Jackson is out. The Redskins are a toxic team when it comes to Fantasy players this year outside of Alfred Morris. St. Louis has such a good pass rush that Garcon shouldn't have much time to get open. I would take guys like Brandon Coleman or Cole Beasley over Garcon this week.

Andre Johnson - He did not impress last week and looked his age. With Hilton out you are probably starting him, but he is a borderline WR3 this week especially if he draws Revis Island.

Waiver Wire Stud
This is the player that I pick each week who is currently a no-namer or unowned in the majority of leagues, but will become one of the top pickups next week. This player is a great speculative add if you have a free roster spot that you can use before you miss out on him next week due to your league’s waiver wire pickup order.

Cole Beasley - Remember this name because everyone that lost Dez Bryant is assuming that Terrance Williams is just going to step in and take on Bryant's targets. Nobody on the Cowboys roster is talented enough to do that. Romo will spread Bryant's targets around to Williams, Witten (more so at the Goal line), Dunbar, and....Cole Beasley. If you own Beasley in a PPR league you just lucked out big time. He is an ultra quick slot receiver so his points come mostly on yardage and not so much on TD potential. Owned in only 21% of ESPN leagues, Beasley should move into the WR3 conversation which should make him a must own player until Dez is healthy. I'm not saying he is a must start player from here on out, but he has as much upside as any WR on the waiver wire right now. Don't leave him explode this week and miss out!
